Until recently, cosmetic dentistry was limited to front teeth
restorations. That's because tooth-colored filling material in the past
wasn't always durable enough to withstand the tremendous biting forces
required by back teeth.
You'll be pleased to know that the extraordinary
CEREC system allows us
to create beautiful tooth-colored restorations both for front and back
teeth. In some cases, fillings, commonly called inlays or onlays, can take
less than an hour to complete.
CEREC restorations are made from ceramic, a substance that is
particularly compatible with the body. Two other materials of choice have
been silver/mercury or gold restorations. Neither offered an aesthetically
pleasing option.
The CEREC ceramic not only looks fabulous, it has the same
characteristics as normal, healthy dental enamel. It is similarly hard
wearing when undergoing the daily grinding of food.
Another big advantage is that CEREC ceramics are so smooth, bacteria
does not stand a chance. This helps to maintain healthier gums.
Now you can have quality dental ceramic fillings (inlays or onlays)
that match the color and appearance of the rest of your teeth. Inlays and
onlays are a very conservative restoration of a broken down tooth or may
replace an existing large filling.

CEREC?
CEREC means we can quickly and economically restore damaged teeth using
a durable ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth
in your mouth. CEREC is an acronym for
Chairside Economical
Restoration of
Esthetic Ceramics.
What Advantages Does CEREC
Offer Me?
First and foremost, the restoration can be performed in a single
session, usually in about one hour. With CEREC
there's no need for us to make an impression and send it to a lab. We
won't inconvenience you by asking you to return for a second visit.
Secondly, the restoration is natural looking, because it is made of
tooth-colored ceramic material. It's metal-free--no silver fillings
to discolor your smile! The ceramic material is compatible with tissue in
your mouth and is high-grade, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. It
allows us to be extremely precise and save more of the healthy part of
your tooth.
5 Steps to a Perfect Smile:
- We take an optical impression of your tooth with the handheld camera.
- With the help of the computer, we custom design your restoration.
- A magnified image of your prepared tooth appears on the screen.
- That is what the computer-restoration design looks like on the video
screen.
- The CEREC mills the porcelain ceramic filling, inlay, onlay, crown,
etc, from a ceramic block in just a few minutes! It is then permanently
bonded to your teeth and you are done in one visit!
